We even have an extensive network of trusted partners so if we don’t have the part available, don’t despair, one of our partners might and our team are more than happy to enquire on your behalf.

So, it doesn’t have to be a total chore finding the spare parts you need, but when you are out there looking for parts, here are some handy tips to make sure you aren’t buying inferior parts for your vehicle.

Specifications

All vehicles are different, none of them are really truly built the same. So, it’s important that you know the specifications of your vehicle. Often all you need is the build date, make and model, VIN and we can do the rest. However, with some parts, if it has been replaced previously with inferior parts, you might fall into the trap of trying to replace that exact part, which is where the make and model come in handy. There’s a plate in the engine bay or on the side of the car door known as a compliance plate or VIN identification plate that shows when the car was manufactured and in some cases the engine numbers can also be of assistance in your search. At least knowing or being able to easily access this information will save you time, money and frustration when it comes to buying the right part for your vehicle the first time.

Research

As with anything we do in life, doing your research is key. If you have an older vehicle, it will take longer to find genuine parts, but you may find compatible parts instead. Your best bet of finding the right compatible part is to make sure you have your vehicle specifications handy and to make sure the part you are looking for lists its specifications, if it doesn’t, don’t buy it, it’s not worth the risk.  Newer parts are less likely to work on your vehicle if it is significantly older, this is where your mechanic may come in handy. They can tell you what parts might work and even source them for you. Just be sure to tell them you prefer the cost effective salvaged or repurposed option to keep costs reasonable.

Ask the dealer

Talk to the team at Perth Parts about the parts we have salvaged from wrecks, whether that be a door panel or a window switch. We are happy to help as should any spare parts dealer you talk to.

Warranties

Warranties always provide peace of mind about the part you are buying, so if the dealer you’re discussing a part with offers a warranty on the part, it should give you a little extra confidence. Perth Parts provides warranties on the parts we salvage from wrecks.
